Mission Group opens new doors to modern living in highly anticipated downtown condo

KELOWNA, B.C. Shovels broke ground on what will be the newest addition to the Kelowna skyline as Mission Group held a ground-breaking ceremony for ELLA, its 20-storey, 116-suite condominium at the corner of Ellis Street and Lawrence Avenue.

On hand to witness the start of construction were Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran as well as local business owners Gloria and Max Sloan from Pulp Fiction Coffee House, Chef Rod Butters from RauDZ Regional Table, and Tina Mandl from Oranj Fitness. They were joined by Vice President of the Downtown Kelowna Association Yarden Gershony and Castanet General Manager Chris Kearney.

Representing Mission Group were CEO Jonathan Friesen and Vice President of Development Luke Turri.

“Today we are proud to celebrate the official start of construction of the first ever concrete high-rise in Kelowna’s Bernard District,” says Mission Group CEO Jonathan Friesen. “We are honoured to break ground alongside owners of local businesses who have helped transform downtown Kelowna into a dynamic and lively destination full of shops, restaurants, and entertainment.”

Just half a block off Bernard Avenue, ELLA’s central location makes it an ideal spot to enjoy the amenities of downtown urban living. “This prime location offers a sophisticated lifestyle and an outstanding home ownership experience for ELLA residents,” adds Friesen.

ELLA has an exceptionally high WalkScore® of 97 based on its access to everyday goods and services as well as proximity to Okanagan Lake, the recreational City Park and waterfront boardwalk, and the Queensway Transit Exchange.

The design of the building includes retail space along both Ellis Street and Lawrence Avenue with condominium homes starting on Level 6, allowing all ELLA residents to enjoy unobstructed views of the city, lake, and mountains. Each home comes with full height window walls and a private deck.

ELLA is 80% sold and construction is expected to be complete in early 2020. The project is also the city’s first concrete condominium building targeting LEED-certified construction and sustainable design.

“The land that ELLA sits on [at Ellis and Lawrence] was purchased from the City of Kelowna last year,” says Mission Group Vice President of Development Luke Turri. “ELLA supports important civic planning objectives – such as the City’s Downtown Plan – and aims to bring a world class standard of living to the Bernard District and downtown core.”

“ELLA’s ground-breaking marks the future of urban living in Kelowna,” adds Turri.

ELLA answers a strong need in Kelowna, which is feeling the impact of people coming to the city in search of lower home prices than the Lower Mainland. Migration-fueled population growth to Kelowna has increased demand for new multi-family housing (CMHC Housing Market Outlook, Fall 2017).

The ELLA Presentation Centre and Display Home is located at 489 Bernard Avenue and is open Thursday to Monday (closed Tuesday and Wednesday) from noon to 5pm.
