BigSteelBox creates custom rugged modular structures
including labs, offices and living quarters

February 26, 2013, Abbotsford, B.C.  BigSteelBox Structures, a division of BigSteelBox, Canada’s fastest growing moving and storage company, today launched its new Bigger Box product, to meet the needs of the oil and gas, mining and forestry markets. The modified steel structures are customized to build offices, mobile labs and for a variety of other uses.

The Bigger Box is 14 feet wide by 28 feet long, almost double the size of a traditional shipping container. The Bigger Boxes are fully engineered to meet all local structural requirements.

“We’ve been working with our industrial customers and there’s a growing need for bigger units but they still want the benefits of our steel boxes, which are more durable and secure,” says Devon Siebenga, general manager of BigSteelBox Structures.

The Bigger Box is virtually indestructible and can be moved many times without breaking down like trailers or other wood frame structures, which makes them a more sustainable solution over the long term.

At its manufacturing site in Abbotsford, BigSteelBox is completing construction of a remote lab destined for the Athabasca Oil Sands near Ft. McMurray, Alberta. The remote lab, with all of the custom finishing and shipping, cost less than $200,000.

“Our client now has a custom-built lab, with the longevity and strength of a steel structure,” says Siebenga. “It’s a BigSteelBox, just bigger – mobile and strong enough to weather northern field conditions. For example, one of our previous projects featured a reinforced flat roof structure capable of holding a snow load of up to 600 pounds per sq. ft.”

Prices for a basic model start at $100,000, and a Bigger Box can be built to almost any size and modified to suit customers’ needs.

Established in 1999, BigSteelBox has built its success by delivery an outstanding customer experience, while consistently providing innovative products and services. Its new Structures division focuses on larger scale projects and customizing containers. The company recently merged with Mission Group, a developer whose condo building expertise has been utilized in container modifications.
