Canmore: the bright spot in Canadian real estate market

Owners drawn to Spring Creek by spectacular views and mountain lifestyle

CANMORE, AB – Condos and Townhomes comprise 70% of active listings in Canmore and are leading the way as the Rocky Mountain town located next to Banff National Park, bucks the slowdown trend in Canadian and Albertan real estate.

For the first quarter of 2019, there was a 11 per cent rise in total residential sales compared to Q1 in 2018 according to Ross Jansen, sales director for Spring Creek, Canmore, who tracks local sales statistics for just Canmore.

“Spring Creek is the preferred address in Canmore. From 2013 right to now in 2019, sales for our condos and townhomes have been consistent, says Jansen, “We have seen steady price growth for our new lodges and resale homes in Spring Creek are keeping pace.”

The trend is continuing as sales statistics released at the end of April from the Calgary Real Estate Board, (CREB) shows that year to date sales in the Bighorn region which includes Canmore, Exshaw, Ghost Lake, Harvey Heights, increased by 9.7 percent from April last year. Listing increased by 8.2% and Canmore just recorded its largest residential land sale ever at $6 million. In comparison, the Canadian Real Estate Association’s quarterly forecast projects a 5.6% decreases in sales activity in Alberta and 1.6% decrease Nationally. The same report projects a small average price decline of 2.5% in Alberta and in Canada of 0.2%.
