Community electric car stolen in break in at the Mantra construction site in Marda Loop

Calgary, AB – Thieves have struck in Marda Loop and as a result, Mantra, a four-storey condominium building located at the corner of 21st Street SW and 35th Avenue SW has had its community electric car stolen.

“While we respect the thieves’ concern for the environment, we want our electric Smart Car back as it is a community car for all the residents at Mantra,” says Calvin Buss, president of Buss Marketing, who is in charge of sales for Mantra.

The Marda Loop condo project is offering a reward for information on the theft, which occurred over the Victoria Day long weekend. Thieves broke into the construction site, stole several items, found the keys to the Smart Car and took the car too. Recently the community electric Smart Car was featured in a National newspaper and is easy to spot as it is fully wrapped with a Mantra logo.

“The full-size Mantra logo on the car will make it easy to spot and we are asking the public to keep an eye out for our Smart Car, there is a chance it will be returned,” say Buss. “We are offering free use of the car for two weeks for information leading to the recovery of the vehicle. Marda Loop needs its Mantra back.”

Located in Calgary’s Marda Loop neighbourhood, the Mantra condo project is being developed by Castera Properties and Groupe Denux. It has started construction and is scheduled to be completed in December 2019.

The developer is working with the Calgary Police on the theft and advises that anyone with information to come forward. It has also issued a warning not to approach the car directly but to call 911 immediately upon spotting the car.

The historic Marda Loop district with its trendy neighbourhood of bars and restaurants is quite lively but Mantra is located on a quiet side street. The development’s security team is currently review security camera footage and hopes to develop a few leads.

“The theft did occur at the tail end of the long weekend and so it is possible that someone woke up with a big hangover and was surprised to see the Mantra car parked in their garage. Stupider stunts have occurred on long weekends, but we just want our community car back.” says Buss.

Recognizing that Millennials live differently in the age of Uber, AirBnB and Car2Go, today’s condo buyer is embracing a new urban lifestyle that values convenience and walkability, Mantra purchased a dedicated electric Smart Car for all its residents to use. It was included in a series of incentives that include one-year free Internet and Cable, free roller blinds, free gym membership and even free pet houses (limited number).

Castera Properties & Groupe Denux, a second-generation family real estate company is developing Mantra. It has more than 40 years of experience developing and managing multi-family properties in Canada and France. It considers Mantra a “state of mind” that residents will experience and be proud to call home.

Marda Loop is a business revitalization zone centred on 33rd and 34th Avenues SW between Crowchild Trail and 19th Street SW. Its name comes from the Marda Theatre, a popular gathering point for locals, along with the Marda streetcar loop – the turnaround point for the Marda streetcar, dating back more than 100 years.
