Things to do in Calgary: Celebrate National Teddy Bear Picnic Day with Free Scavenger Hunt

July 6, 2020 – Balzac, AB –  When the world changed this year, an unlikely hero emerged: the Teddy Bear. From New Zealand to Japan to the USA and even Newfoundland and Labrador, Teddy Bear Hunts have been entertaining children since April and the world-wide trend is coming to New Horizon Mall on July 10.

National Teddy Bear Picnic Day is on July 10 and New Horizon Mall is celebrating with three days of Teddy Bear Scavenger Hunts. Free to all kids (and parents), the Teddy Bear Scavenger Hunt at New Horizon Mall starts at 11 am on July 10, 11 and 12.

Teddy Bears will be hiding throughout New Horizon Mall with “Beary” special names waiting to be found. Kids should visit the Atrium at New Horizon Mall to pick up their complimentary Scavenger Hunt card and when all bears are found they can enter to win a Teddy Bear Prize Basket.

“We think this will be the world’s largest indoor Teddy Bear Scavenger Hunt as New Horizon Mall has a total of 320,000 sq ft and we are doing the Bear Hunt over three days,” says Alexandra Winn, marketing manager, New Horizon Mall. “Entirely free, the Teddy Bear Scavenger Hunt is a good, safe, activity that provide parents with something really fun to do with their kids this weekend.”

Stuffed Teddy Bears started appearing in windows around the world in late March as the trend united neighborhoods and provided children with an exciting social-distancing safe scavenger hunt activity during lockdown. Families put teddy bears in windows, trees, parked cars, porches and then would go on walks with children to ‘hunt’ for bears.
