Groundbreaking for Tamarack Lodge illustrates new trend in recreational property market
February 13 2020, CANMORE, AB – A groundbreaking ceremony was held February 12 to mark the start of construction of Spring Creek’s newest lodge, valued at more than $50 million at full build out. Shovels are in the dirt as the popular mountain community broke ground on the Tamarack Lodge.
It is the eighth and largest mountain lodge to date from Spring Creek, Canmore’s premier neighborhood. An important milestone, the groundbreaking marks the halfway point of the master planned neighborhood.
“As Calgarians prepare to head to the mountains for Family Day Long Weekend, it appears the mountain condo has replaced the historic cabin at the lake as the home of choice for recreational property buyers,” says Frank Kernick, president and owner of Spring Creek.
Recent housing market trends have highlighted a shift in the real estate market in favor of condominiums. According to PwC Canada’s Emerging Trends in Real Estate 2020 report, “Condominiums have continued to dominate new home construction in Canada. With inventory under construction reaching almost 121,000 units in 2018, condo activity far outpaced single-family (46,747 units) and rentals (56,394 rentals) housing.”
Similar to White Spruce Lodge, Spring Creek’s fastest selling lodge to date, the Tamarack features Tourist Home permitted use. This approved discretionary use by the Town of Canmore provides owners with an opportunity for increased revenue as condominiums may be used for permanent residence or short-term rentals.
The Tamarack is one of the few developments in Canmore approved for this use. Home owners will be able to tap into the rapidly expanding vacation rental market by registering with Spring Creek Vacations, the community’s property management company, or popular home sharing companies like AirBnB and VRBO.com.
80% of the Tamarack’s 80 available condominium homes have been sold. Set for completion in 2021, there are several available options for one, two or three bedroom suites ranging between 720 and 2,331 square feet, with pricing from $469,000 to $1,359,000.

For those not interested in vacation rentals, the Jack Pine Lodge has homes available and is set for completion in 2020. Jack Pine Lodge has some of the nicest view lines in the community and homes with similar luxury finishings. Amenities include: garden hot tub, underground heated parking and geothermal heating and cooling.
