Vivo Resort’s Owners’ Week kicks off the official season for the oceanfront property
PUERTO ESCONDIDO and CALGARY – As Vivo Resort prepares to welcome its owners to the annual Vivo Owners’ Week at the oceanfront resort, preparations are underway for the tight-knit celebration.
There are a lot of reasons to own a recreational property, but the number one reason cited by Canadians surveyed (64 per cent) in the 2019 RE/MAX Recreational Property Omnibus Survey is to “relax and spend time with friends and family.”
Mexico is the number one choice for Canadians who want to purchase a second property, according to a 2018 survey by Point2 Homes. In fact, buying a property in Mexico is more affordable than purchasing one in Canada, with the average home selling price in Mexico at $52, 325 last year, which is about 11 times less than Canada.
More Canadians are choosing Puerto Escondido, Mexico for its authenticity, sense of community, safety and welcoming vibe, says Cary Mullen, former Olympic skier and developer of Vivo Resorts.
“Authentic and vibrant, Puerto Escondido feels real and amazingly comfortable, because it is. It’s a destination where locals warmly welcome visitors, while staying true to the customs and culture of their Oaxacan heritage,” Mullen says.
Which is why Vivo Resorts enjoys welcoming its homeowners during Vivo Owners’ Week, and with the recent opening of the Laguna and steady sales of Marino’s sister building, Nautico, there’s a lot of exciting things happening.

“At Vivo, you’ll know your neighbours. Even better – you’ll like your neighbours. Vivo attracts people that vary in age and occupation but form lifelong friendships over their passion to lead happier, healthier, more engaged lives,” Mullen adds.
“These commonalities make for a tight-knit community. Neighbours bond by the pool and around the dinner table, brought together by common interests in a recreational property. And Owners’ Week is a wonderful time to celebrate all this beauty with our community, friends and family.”
Vivo Resorts is a gated community that currently has 14 private homes and 135 condominiums occupying 75 acres of prime beachfront in the state of Oaxaca at the southern west coast of Mexico, 10 miles from Puerto Escondido.
At full build out, there will be 114 private homes and over 400 condominiums total. The resort includes almost half a mile of frontage on Palmarito Beach at the southern end of the Emerald Coast and is the only development on a 21-kilometre stretch of beach.
The resort’s social hub is a $7 million, 53,000-square-foot, clubhouse featuring amenities including a spa, ocean-view fitness facility, upscale restaurant, a lounge bar, tennis courts and large event space. Also, on the property are a general store and two infinity edge swimming pools with swim-up bars and a family pool.
Vivo most recently broken ground on its Marino and Nautico condominium projects and both are nearing completion. Once completed, the overall development will increase by another 59 condominiums.
Marino and Nautico will share a spacious beachside infinity pool and swim-up bar when the project is completed in 2020.
The 8-storey, 31-unit Marino is 90% sold and offers:

Unlike some of the larger, more well-known resort towns on Mexico’s west coast, or ex-pat hotbeds like the Lake Chapala region, Puerto Escondido, a town of approximately 45,000 just an hour’s drive north of Huatulco in the province of Oaxaca, “remains a hidden gem off the beaten path and still true to it’s authentic Mexican fishing village roots,” Mullen says. “It’s a laid-back beach town reminiscent of what Puerto Vallarta used to be.”
For Canadians, Puerto Escondido has the amenities and conveniences of home – but with better weather. And that’s exactly why Jef Vermeulen from Ontario chose to buy recreational property at Vivo Resort where he spends up to six months a year.
“We fell in love with the people, the food, the history and all of the good things Puerto Escondido has to offer, like the weather, the sun and the ocean,” Vermeulen says, adding he enjoys bringing friends and family to experience the area for themselves.
“It’s authentic, it’s the real Mexico. There are tourists, but it isn’t overwhelmed with tourism, so you get a taste of the real Mexico. And there is a community of friends and acquaintances that become a community.”
A convenient private shuttle service offers easy transport to/from Puerto Escondido, while the Vivo Rental Program offers a hassle-free vacation rental option for condo owners, which is perfect for millennials who are buying recreational property more than ever.
In fact, according to the 2019 RE/MAX Recreational Property Omnibus, 40 per cent of all Canadians are in the market for recreational property, and 56 per cent of those are millennials.
Residences in Vivo Resorts offer multiple floor plans, sizes and prices to suit a variety of buyers. For those who want a waterfront experience, every suite in the Marino and Nautico buildings have panoramic, unobstructed, ocean views. Both buildings offer one, two and three-bedroom plans.
The prices start at $249,000 (U.S) and up.
